Attach a knowledge base to an agent
Choose which knowledge bases an agent searches during calls, and tell it how to use what it finds.
What you will achieve
An agent will answer from your documents during calls and chats.
Prerequisites
- A knowledge base with at least one Indexed document.
Step-by-step setup
- Open the agent and the Knowledge tab.
- Choose Choose knowledge. The panel says "Anything ticked here is searched on every turn of this agent's calls."
- Tick the bases to use. If there are none, choose Create one first.
- Choose Save, then press Save on the agent if it shows unsaved changes.
Remove a base from the list with the remove button beside it.
Configuration details
- An agent can use several bases; they are all searched on each turn.
- A base can be attached to several agents. The Agents column on the Knowledge page shows how many.
- Tell the agent how to use it in the System prompt: "Answer from your knowledge. If it is not there, say you will pass the question to the team."
Testing
Use Chat on the agent, ask a question your documents cover, then one they do not. The Logs tab can list the documents of an attached base.
Expected result
Answers use your wording and facts, and the agent says it does not know when the documents do not cover a question.
Troubleshooting
- The agent ignores the documents. Check the base is attached and saved, and that Test retrieval returns the passage.
- It answers from general knowledge anyway. Add an explicit rule to the system prompt.
