Phone numbers overview
How phone numbers work in Phynxa: you bring a number from your provider, and Phynxa answers it with an agent.
What you will achieve
You will understand which parts of a phone setup are Phynxa's, which are your provider's, and which providers work today.
How it fits together
Phynxa does not sell numbers. You buy or already own a number with a phone provider, connect that provider account to Phynxa, import the number, and assign it to an agent. Then you point the number at Phynxa in the provider's console.
| Step | Where |
|---|---|
| Buy or own a number | Your provider's console |
| Connect the account | Phone numbers, Providers tab, Add credentials |
| Bring numbers in | Import numbers |
| Choose which agent answers | Numbers tab, Assign agent |
| Point the number at Phynxa | The provider's console, using the address on the Webhook setup tab |
Which providers
| Provider | Connect and import numbers | Calls |
|---|---|---|
| Twilio | Yes | Supported end to end: inbound, outbound, transfer to a human |
| Telnyx | Yes | Inbound calls |
| Plivo | Yes | Inbound calls |
| Vonage | Yes | Inbound calls |
| Exotel | Yes | Inbound and outbound, set up through a flow you build in Exotel |
Good to know. Transfers run on Twilio only. Outbound calls and campaigns run on Twilio and Exotel. The other providers answer inbound calls. Twilio is the recommended provider for production phone lines.
The Phone numbers page
It has three tabs and a Test call button.
- Numbers: each number with Answered by (the agent), Role (default outbound or not) and an actions menu.
- Providers: one card per provider with its credentials and Add credentials or Import numbers.
- Webhook setup: Where to point each provider, with a copy button per provider. Members see "Only an owner or admin can see this address" instead of the address.
Four cards on top show Numbers, Answering (numbers with an agent), Providers connected and Public address.
Rules that apply to every number
- A number must appear on a provider account you connected with your own credentials before you can assign it. This stops one workspace claiming another's number.
- A number answers with one agent only.
- Only a published agent answers; otherwise callers hear "Sorry, no agent is available to take this call."
